timid

Day one for the pups -
Well- day (-2) involved a drive from KY to DC area immediately into an adoption fair of 100 ish dogs & pups with their siblings.
Some siblings disappeared during this day.
Day (-1) was a continuation of the fair, more sibling disappeared.
At the end of Day (-1) my sibling pair went into a new crate into another foster (on a farm with many BIG dogs & animals)
She drove the pups from her home to Delaware (2 hours-ish), where they were transferred to MY crate and driven 4ish hours to CT.
Umlaut had vomited 3 times on the drive TO Delaware, and had nothing left.
They quaked in their crate for the first day. We took them out to pee and change their towels and try to feed them (no interest the first day) - but mostly we left them alone to quake and adjust.
This was day 1 and day 2.
gus sniffed at them repeatedly (in their crate inside their kennel) and occasionally barked, but that was it

background

the original plan was to adopt a couple puppies.
There was correspondence with a rescue group about 2 pups. So we wrote and I applied and then...silence.
I heard from a friend that she had given a reference for me, but I NEVER heard the words
Your Application has Been Approved
Actually- I have still never heard them.

And then nothing. Crickets...
So Will and Louis started browsing Petfinder (mistake because they fell in love a zillion times)
Will located an older puppy 7-9 months, at a local animal shelter. This was a Thursday night. Friday morning we went down to see this pup.
Boxer back end- beagle face. Really- he looks like someone just cut off a beagle head and pasted it on a boxer body. We said to the animal Control Officer
We'd like to see #36

ON NO,
she said, I can't let you have 36, 37 or 38 they are too aggressive
Really?
we asked, because we saw him on petfinder.
She consulted her board again and said OH- my mistake- 37,38,39 are all pit bulls with bite histories, 36 is a cutie.
They brought him out and he was llsort sof excited and just a cutie. He had already been neutered and was a stray, so our adoption fee was FIVE dollars. $5.
I made a bigger donation and will make another one soon.
As I was filling out the paperwork, i received a VM which I listened to as soon as I left the facility.

It was the rescue people saying Can you come get the Puppies NOW or Monday?

There was no time to process. If we had more time alone with Gus, or had a definite on the puppies, I am sure we would have ended up with just one or the other- but we did not have that time, so we have both.
